This is for when you need temporary 120v power at a dryer receptacle. By following these instructions, you can build an adapter that is safe and NEC complaint. Note that the GCFI or AFCI used should have a built-in current limit breaker on it for either 15 or 20 amps.
Materials needed:

Strip the ends of the 10 gauge wires just enough for the ring terminals.
Mount the ring terminals on both end of the green wires.
Mount the ring terminals on one the end of the white, black, and red wires.
Mount the terminal strip on the back of the electrical box.
Mount the ring terminals on the terminal strip, noting to put the black and red on separate hots.
Attach the four green wires to the grounding post of the box, where you will later attach the green wire from the dryer cord.
Knock out one of the knockouts in the box and attach the cable clamp
Attach the plug to the cable clamp.
Attach the cable clamp to the electrical box and the range terminal strip.
Attach the black wires to the brass "line" terminal of half of the GCFIs.
Attach the red wires to the brass "line" terminal of half of the GCFIs.
Attach the white wire to the silver "line" terminal of the GCFIs.
Screw the receptacle to the box.
Attach a green wire to each green ground screw.
Tighten both of the "load" screws.
Put on the cover plate. (not too tight as it might break.)
Note: You need to make sure that you will be following current NEC safety rules and guidelines.
